Hogwarts is hidden from Muggle eyes. The castle is bewitched so that if a Muggle looks at it, all they see is a moldering old ruin with a sign over the entrance saying DANGER, DO NOT ENTER, UNSAFE. A sweetshop, owned by Ambrosius Flume and his wife, which is filled with 'shelves upon shelves of the most succulent-looking sweets imaginable'. In addition to the standard Wizarding candy that is sold there, the owners also make their own fudge and chocolate. For obvious reasons, the shop is quite a popular destination for Hogwarts students when visiting Hogsmeade on the weekends.
Down in the cellar of the shop, amidst the boxes and wooden crates and known to only a select few people, is a trap door in the dusty floor--which opens to reveal a secret passageway to Hogwarts.

The station is actually quite a distance from the town itself, being on the opposite side of the Hogwarts grounds.

The Atrium:
The Atrium is a large hall with fireplaces up and down both long walls. Down the left-hand side of the hall are gilded fireplaces which witches and wizards can use to arrive at the Ministry. The right-hand side contains gilded fireplaces as well, and these are used for departures. The floor is polished dark wood. The ceiling is peacock blue with golden symbols moving across it.
The Fountain of Magical Brethren lies halfway down the Atrium. A group of golden statues, depicting a wizard, a witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a house-elf, spout water into the surrounding pool of water. At the end of the Atrium is a set of golden gates, next to which is a security stand.
Eric Munch is usually on duty here. He registers the wands of visitors. Another smaller hall is beyond the gates and here there is a series of lifts.

| St. Mungo's |
![[ ]](http://images.proboards.com/new/off.png) | St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries (7 sub-boards)
Founded in late 1500s or early 1600s by Mungo Bonham, St. Mungo's Hospital is the primary (and likely only) wizarding hospital in Britain.
Located in an abandoned department store in London, the hospital's Healers treat wizards for all sorts of magic-related illnesses and injuries, and in extreme circumstances has been known to treat Muggles as well. The hospital's logo is a wand and a bone, crossed, and donations are welcome.
The entrance to St. Mungo's is concealed behind an abandoned red-brick London department store called Purge and Dowse, Ltd. on a Muggle street. Unlike, say, the Leaky Cauldron, St. Mungo's is visible to passing Muggles, who merely believe the sign on the front that the store is "Closed for Refurbishment."
In the front window, a dummy dressed in outdated styles serves as the gatekeeper; wizards wanting to enter do so by talking to the dummy, and then walking straight through the window.
A sign inside the hospital by the front desk reads: 'If you are unsure where to go, incapable of normal speech, or unable to remember why you are here, our Welcome Witch will be pleased to help.'

![[ ]](http://images.proboards.com/new/off.png) | Apothecary
The Apothecary is a fascinating shop crammed with all sorts of interesting things. There are barrels of slimy stuff lined up on the floor and jars of all sorts of powders, herbs, and the like along the walls.
Bundles of feathers, fangs, and claws hang from the ceiling. The whole place smells very bad, a mixture of bad eggs and rotten cabbage. The name of this shop in the films is Slug & Jiggers Apothecary.

This shop, the closest one to the entrance from the alley behind the Leaky Cauldron, sells all sorts of cauldrons. Outside the shop, a stack of them shines in the sun, under a sign that reads:

![[ ]](http://images.proboards.com/new/off.png) | Flourish and Blotts
A large wizarding bookshop filled with shelves stacked to the ceiling, Flourish & Blotts is the primary--and perhaps only--supplier of textbooks for Hogwarts, though of course that's far from all they sell. In addition to the store's manager, who at times helps customers himself, the store also employs an assistant manager (paid 42 Galleons a month), and an assistant. The job is not altogether easy, as Wizarding books might attempt to bite or simply be completely invisible, or fight back.

![[ ]](http://images.proboards.com/new/off.png) | Gambol & Japes
This shop, a favorite of Fred and George, sells a wide variety of tricks and practical joke items. The twins bought Dr. Filibuster's Fabulous Wet-Start, No-Heat Fireworks here in 1992, though of course three years later they were a direct competitor with their own joke shop, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, just down the road.

![[ ]](http://images.proboards.com/new/off.png) | Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions
Though far from the only Wizarding clothier around, Madam Malkin's seems to be the best, as it is the place where most Hogwarts students purchase their robes. Madam Malkin herself is a friendly, squat witch, though she seems a bit out of touch at times.
Madam Malkin's is located next door to Flourish & Blotts, and in addition to selling Hogwarts school robes, they also sell robes which are "spangled, self-ironing, beautifying, slimming, fattening, lengthening," and "temperature-adjusting." And they carry robes made by Whopperwear 'for the outsize witch or wizard.'
A later advertisement states that every robe sold at the store is 'self-ironing and repairing' as well.

There have always been street peddlers on Diagon Alley, and shoppers have always had reason to be wary of them (such as when 'Honest Willy Wagstaff' managed to sell substandard wands and loose-bottomed cauldrons a few years back.)
However, once the Dark Lord James Potter came to be, wizards looking to capitalize on the public fear managed to sell even sketchier items, from Metamorph-medals that simply made the purchaser turn orange or sprout tentacles.
